I brought the book with me to read on vacation and am currently on page 157.
i agree with your concern 100% especially since i totally misunderstood
your question regarding all eggs in one basket.
i took the view of the product (epg/ipg) as being all their eggs in one basket as where you meant market segments.
i would now answer no to that question. i find it a major plus that they are focused on one product across so many segments.
when you say that consumer product companies should not use bowling alley tactics but should market horizontally to blanket the landscape. are you saying that they should go directly to tornado tactics. ignore the customer and just ship the product. if so, you've raised my concerns again about the rollout rate of guide equipped tvs or am i over obsessing with this issue.
