There are a number of misleading factors that paint the picture as "doubling":

(1) e-tailers are starting from a small prior year's sales
(2) many are adding product lines that distort sales which are more accurately gauged with same store or same product line growth
(3) they subsidize prices with proceeds from stock and debt offerings; if they competed on equal terms with established firms for funds, they would likely end up charging higher prices than the established firms.

Brick-and-mortar companies with substantial sales are cautiously moving into web-based sales so as not to take hits on their bottom line. Many of the e-tailers have no experience running a for-profit business.

Most of the internet is not producing new sales. It is converting sales from mail order, direct wholesale/sales, and less so from physical store traffic.

The few nets I've bought have very reasonable market caps. Their value is forward-looking of course. The Xmas season (and such a great one as we're about to have) is the right time for e-tailers and retailers. Either before or after Xmas they usually rally into the spring. My retailers all have stellar earnings which are about to get even better and low PE's. That's the value for me.

I know all about AMZN's unprofitability. ONSL sells at cost and that stock just almost doubled. AMZN moved up 5% on Friday. Tis the season to be jolly.
