Meet Mohan Sondhi- A 'Sound' Visonary.

M.Mohan Sondhi: A Vision For Sound

M. Mohan Sondhi's illustrious career at Bell Labs spans 35 years. During this time, he has made important contributions in the area of echo cancellation, as well as in the areas of acoustical inverse problems, hidden Markov models for speech recognition and the analysis of queues in buffers.

The echo canceler provides enhanced speech quality in a wide variety of communications systems, and is becoming increasingly important for emerging networks characterized by coder-induced delays, as well as for cancelling acoustic echos that arise in hands-free telephony. New and emerging systems that enable human-machine dialogue also use the principles of echo cancellation that he helped develop.

For his pioneering work in the field of adaptive echo cancellation, resulting in fundamental improvements in the quality of speech communications and of human-machine dialogue, Sondhi was recently Honored by Bell Labs.

Sondhi, a DMTS supervisor in Acoustics and Speech Research, has been with Bell Labs since 1962. He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
