Pat, from Briefing.com earlier today:

09:00 ET Optical Networkers : Redback's purchase of Siara for $4.3 bln in stock will ensure that the optical players (JDSU, SDLI, ETEK, SCMR) remain hot. Siara is developing equipment to deliver IP-over-optical, targetting CLECs in the metropolitan-area market, rather than the long haul market targetted by Cerent, which was recently acquired by Cisco (Siara and Cerent were started by the same group of engineers, who split into two in June 1998). If the Cisco/Cerent deal is any indication, the market will view the RBAK acquisition favorably despite the high price paid for a pre-revenue company. RBAK is currently bid up 1 1/2.

I posted this also on the JDSU thread. Waiting for a split announcement, hopefully soon.

Regards,

Marty
