I must admit I've been a closet skeptic when it comes to e-commerce, but I'm becoming more convinced as time passes. I find myself frequently relying on the Web for purchases lately, especially as long lines, full parking lots, surly sales people, even more surly shoppers, and lack of stock make bricks-and-mortar shopping less-and-less pleasant. The UPS man now makes fairly regular stops at our house.

And the interesting thing is that he does NOT make regular stops at most of the houses on our street, which suggests that there's a huge potential for expansion (or the possibility of total failure <g>).

JMHO.

That makes sense except I think the life cycle of a router is much shorter and gets replaced with much greater frequency (just a guess).

Cisco and Sun bolted from the same starting gate. CSCO took a big and early lead. SUNW is now gaining on CSCO coming around the back stretch. I agree that SUNW now warrants a CSCO level P/E. SUNW in fact probably has the stronger franchise going forward. OTOH, I've believed that for a lot of years.

I made a very conscious decision to buy SUNW huge in 1996 rather than all or even part CSCO. In fact, my original reason for going SO long with SUNW in the first place was to attempt capital recovery after allowing myself to be amateurishly stopped out of CSCO some months earlier (right before a big CSCO run). It worked BTW, I no longer regret getting stopped out of CSCO and subsequently going for the long SUNW bomb on third down. :)

Meanwhile, back at the horserace metaphor, I believe SUNW and CSCO will find market cap parity in calendar year 00.
