GSM phones already use SIMs, though phones that use the CDMA and TDMA systems, prevalent in the US and Asia, do
not. Instead all user and WAP information is held in the phone.

"WAP 1.2 will make GSM safer than CDMA or TDMA ones," said David Corfan, technical manager for
Phone.com Europe, a vendor of microbrowsers and WAP servers. Phone.com will "almost certainly" adhere to WAP 1.2
guidelines in its products, said Corfan.
