Petroleum Products' Pipeline Subjected To Aggression Incident North Of Erkuwit Area Khartoum

Nov. 28 (SUNA) - The old petroleum products pipeline, which is being used for pumping gasoline from Port Sudan to the petroleum deposits in Khartoum, was subjected Saturday evening to an aggression incident, at a place seven kilometres north of Erkuwit area in the Red Sea State, said the Minister of Energy and Mining, Dr. Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz.

The minister explained in a statement to SUNA that the damage caused by the aggression on the pipeline was a limited one involving only two meters of the pipeline.

He pointed out that the situation is now under full control, explaining that the process of pumping petroleum products through the pipeline was stopped and the operations for the maintenance of the pipeline started and are expected to be completed on Sunday evening or Monday morning, prior to resuming the pumping ordinarily, and without affecting the situation of the petroleum supplies.

Sudan pipeline attacked - BBC, November 28

Sudanese television has reported an
attack on an oil pipeline that takes
petrol from Port Sudan for storage in
the capital, Khartoum.

The energy minister Jawad Ahmad
al-Jaz said pumping in the pipeline
had been stopped, but repairs should
allow it to resume on Monday.

News of the attack came as President
Omar al-Bashir urged the opposition
leader, Mohammed Osman
al-Mirghani, to meet him for talks,
following the agreement already
reached with another leading
opposition figure, Sadiq al-Mahdi of
the Ummah party.

Earlier the opposition umbrella group,
the National Democratic Alliance of
Sudan, or NDA, criticised the
agreement, saying it would create
further divisions and escalate the
long-running conflict in Sudan. The
NDA said it was not consulted about
the agreement, which calls for a
referendum on self-determination for
the south of Sudan and a federal
system of government.
