Tenchusatsu:
Do you think that combined NEC-Hitachi DRAM venture is going to make 256 Mbit RDRAM or DDR. My bet it will be RDRAM since NEC is a validated "system" RIMM manufacturer already.
Their announcement is 11 AM EST. It should be a fun Monday morning for RMBS stock. Barron's BS reaction at open; major DRAM manufacturers announcement at 11 AM.

NEC ,Hitachi to brief on DRAM joint venture
TOKYO, Nov 29 (Reuters) - NEC Corp said it and Hitachi Ltd will hold a news conference on Monday at 3:00 p.m. (0600 GMT) on a DRAM (dynamic random access memory) joint venture.

NEC Senior Vice President Kanji Sugihara and Hitachi Senior Vice President Tadashi Ishibashi will attend the news conference, NEC said in a statement.

In June, the two chip-making giants unveiled a broad alliance aimed at sharing hefty development costs for new DRAM chips and raising profitability in their ailing semiconductor divisions, which have been hit by a prolonged market slump and stiff price competition.

In June, they said the venture would begin joint DRAM development with 256 megabit chips based on 0.15 micron process technology and that their combined annual DRAM research and development costs are around 50 billion yen.

They said that all DRAM operations at the two companies would be combined in the joint venture, allowing significant advantages through economies of scale and shared expenses.
