Here it is:

Glaxo flu inhaler approved in US after February knock-back Glaxo Wellcome can breath easily again after its flu treatment, Relenza, was granted approval in the US, following an advisory committee's initial dismissal of the drug in February.

The FDA has approved Relenza (zanamivir) which is inhaled from a hand-held device called a Diskhaler. This delivers the drug to the surface of the lungs, which is believed to be the primary site for influenza infection.

This approval follows an extended review period, after the FDA's advisory committee recommended the drug should not be approved. Relenza is already marketed in Australia and New Zealand and has been approved in countries of the European Union as well as Switzerland.

Relenza is from a new class of compounds called neuraminidase inhibitors and is effective against influenza A and B. It is thought to work by inhibiting breakage (by neuraminidase) of the bond which holds virus particles to infected cells, so preventing the infection from spreading. In clinical trials of over 6,000 patients with flu, those treated with Relenza had less severe symptoms, recovered more quickly and returned to their normal lives more rapidly than patients receiving placebo.

Relenza has been developed by Glaxo Wellcome under license from Australian company Biota Holdings.
