John,

My guess is that Foveon can be top notch. Perhaps not. If it is, I think the benefits of cheap manufacturing can be had while they serve the high-end market. It's known that Carver Mead of Foveon doesn't seem to have any intentions of achieving mass market appeal, so if nothing else, Foveon's plan could remain intact so long as they would have leading edge products. The professional market will always pay through the nose if the product is a bit better since every advantage becomes worth the price. If CMOS imaging becomes the standard, it seems quite possible that Foveon could capture it's target market.

The real story for this Gildertech thread would be NSM's place in the mass market. My initial impression is that Photobit is behind, but one wonders about possible patent issues. NSM sure ought to be set to run with this.
