40,000 stores. $8 million. That is $200 per store.

Assuming $10 per unit, that is 20 units per store.

Of course with the free publicity in USA Today, I could easily believe these kind of sales, regardless of whether people perceive the product as worthwhile (after taking it). I'd guess Quigley was able to sell at least this much Cold Eze or whatever they call their product.

The real question would then be will those who tried it recommend it to others, or buy it again themselves?

"Two of the four were sold out..."

I'd imagine that it's not too hard to sell out your inventory of a fad product when you only have a token amount on hand. The Eckerds that I bought my box from still has plenty. When I asked the manager how much they'd sold, he said they only bought a small number of units (1 case- however many that is) to see how well they'd sell but hadn't sold out the first lot yet. If you recall, I bought my box of Ziscam almost two months ago. Doesn't seem to be flying off the shelves here.
