system configuration utility in win98...

undoubtedly, there are many of you who know all about this feature in win98. being new to the os, i've just discovered it myself. for anyone who has not tried it or didn't even know it existed, here's a fine little article/tutorial from smart computing magazine...

smartcomputing.com

"You don't necessarily need to be a computer expert to
seek out and fix whatever it is that's causing your
system to falter. The System Configuration Utility
(SCU) in Windows 98 is a one-stop utility with which
you can view your system's startup files to find and fix
problems by a process of elimination."

i just used it (i went to the 'startup' tab) to eliminate a half dozen apps that were running on reboot. i reclaimed about 7% of system resources (now at 86% on startup) and got rid of some junk icons in the systray while i was at it.

so have fun, and you can create a backup on the 'general' tab and later restore to it if things don't work out the way you had 'em planned. <g3>

:)
