Advanced Micro to Unveil Chip Faster Than Intel's, WSJ Says

Sunnyvale, Calif., Nov. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Advanced Micro Devises Inc., Intel Corp.'s biggest rival in the microprocessor market, will today likely announce a new 750 megahertz microprocessor, topping the 733 megahertz speed of Intel's Pentium III, the Wall Street Journal said in its interactive edition, without citing sources. Advanced Micro's Athlon chip is the first to be made using its 0.18 micron manufacturing process. The company is also likely to announce a 533 megahertz chip to compete with Intel's 500 megahertz Celeron chip, the report said.

Advanced Micro Devices said earlier this month it may break even in the fourth quarter.
