Mehrdad: 12. 3Com's position in the Emerging markets appears to be getting stronger. They are continuing to register more patents in Wireless,
Broadband and VoIP etc.

Gary: This is the sleeper. We don't really know what's going on here yet but if you're right and COMS is winning business then we should see it in revenue growth of core businesses. Should this occur I'll hold my COMS shares.

If you are to believe the consensus of most Think Tanks and Pundits, the emerging markets are going to be a cornucopia for all who play in this sector. No one questions the fact that 3Com will play a major role hear, even if it is 2nd. tier to Cisco. As I have said, 3Com is comparatively well deserving of a market cap. of $45 billion($130/share) when CSCO commands $310 billion.

IMO 3Com will free enormous resources once the Palm IPO is consummated and refocus its energies in the higher growth areas that mgmt. has addressed.

While at Comdex I conferred with a few 3Com engineers and other employees, what amazed me was that they were very well aware of the resources veered toward the making of the Palm. They went on to emphasize that after the IPO, 3Com would be better focused and positioned to make strides into gaining market share in their systems division and very little of the $600 million spent on R&D would be spent on their legacy products. They also emphasized that they had registered numerous patents in the emerging market area that would begin to show handsome margins in the coming quarters. Last but not least, they were very upbeat about the company,s future prospects and went on to say "earnings will easily beat the consensus estimates."
