>> Can anyone explain to me what "G-Lite" is and how or who I would call to find if its available in my area?

G-lite is a version of DSL service. Not sure what the speeds are, but it's slower than "full blown" DSL. However, it's still 28 times faster than 56K, so ....

>> I have a 56k modem its US ROBOTICS and YET I only get maximum 28.8k speed.

Same problem here, and same modem. It took me a while to figure it out, 'cuz the phone company (US West) wasn't talking. They claim "100% 56K capability" in their network, so I signed up with them as an ISP. The reason they're not talking is 'cuz they also own the phone line that has a "SLICK" on it (a multiplexer) which limits my bandwidth to 28.8K, maximum -- I typically get a 26.4 connection. I called them on it, but they just rolled over to play dead w/o upgrading my line. You _might_ be in a similar situation.

Cable in my area won't be available 'til mid-2000. Also tried Direct PC, but that requires a 28.8K connection up-stream over the POTS phone line.

Went to a home show recently, and found out my only option is to go wireless: gci-net.com
but that won't be available in my area for a few months yet. But when it is, I may cancel my service w/ US West entirely. ... See how it goes.
