I just got off the phone with Peter Hunt, Net Shepherd's IR point man about an hour ago. I had left a message for him at his office to call me when he got a chance, and to his credit, he did it late tonight. I'm impressed, as Peter, Don Sandford - NSI's President, and a few others are on the road with their investors' tour now. They are out on the east coast. After a few tough days answering questions, Peter sounded tired, but he was definitely upbeat. After twice listening to the conference call, and after my discussion with Peter, I now feel that I have a much clearer picture of what today's announcement could mean for us as shareholders. I also want to emphasize that some of the questions Peter could not answer, or that he felt that he may not have been answering as clearly as he should have, he stressed that I should bring them up during the upcoming Investors' Forum. This is the telephone conference call scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. After listening to the c. call, and talking with Peter, here is are some of the major points I want to highlight . . . I now consider it as huge news that Jan Baan is taking such a big role in this company (Chairman). This man is recognized as among the elite in the software development world. His firm is one of the top ERP companies in the world and it is worth billions. Mr. Bann, may not be as well known in N.America as someone like a Larry Elison (Oracle), but his stature is right up there. Imagine if we heard that Mr. Elison, or one of his other counterparts had taken a 50% stake in the company. I think that the thread's reaction would have been a little more vocal in our praise. Just a few well placed contracts from Mr. Baan's ERP customer base could be a veritable gold mine for the company. I went to ClickChoice.com's website and found some very interesting things that Click Choice does now, and is planning to do, that fit very well with the Net Shepherd model. The combination of the ICMS and ClickChoice's software will be a tremendous and powerful tool. I plan to ask more about this during the Investors' Forum. The two companies (Net Shepherd and ClickChoice.com) should fit well together. They have been working together for awhile now, and the skill set of the folks at Click Choice are an excellent fit with those a Net Shepherd. (Note: Back in the Spring, Ric Charron {NSI's CFO}said that finding a company that would be a good fit would be one of the things that would be a prime consideration before any possible merger with any other firm took place) The money and software development support that the Vanenburg group is putting up will dramatically speed their time to market for their new businesses. I am painfully aware that having a good idea does not translate into business success. It is the ability to execute that is the key. The access to the skilled software programmers, and the cash infusion to get their private companies up and operating as soon a possible will dramatically reduce the time it takes to get them to NASAQ. Don Sandford mentioned that they will start to see the benefits of this support immediately. The neural network stuff that will be the Internet Community Management System V 3.0 will provide an amazing leap forward for the capabilities of the company. The combined company, with Mr. Baan as the head will be able to open doors that would have never been opened for the tiny Calgary based company before this. I know this from experience. I was talking with a Vice Chairman of an international firm a few weeks ago about another company I have shares in. When he found out that I was talking about a small company from a junior exchange, he basically became rude and did not want to talk about it, or to me any more. Now, I know that if I had mentioned that that company had someone of Mr. Baan's stature as Chairman, then the story would have had a completely different ending. By the way, if you want my opinion - the guy at that other big firm was an ass. But, unfortunately he was in a position of power and influence. I think that when Net Shepherd is ready to go to NASDAQ, there will be many of the big Oak and Brass doors wide open, with lots of people in expensive suits eager to talk to him, and the rest of the crew from Net Shepherd about his latest undertaking. Given the need for speed to market, then this type of access and power is definitely worth paying for. With Mr. Baan's influence and connections behind the company, I think that it is important to remember just how many companies Net Shepherd is planning to take to NASDAQ. This list includes, the parent company - Net Shepherd, Answers.com, their Business Intelligence company, the Systems Integration company (just mentioned today in the 3rd Q results), and the possible Market Research firm. With the big board listing for the parent company and these other four potential IPO's in waiting, and given Mr. Baan's connections and his 'Been There, Done That' history, then this could be a very interesting next 18 months for us. I won't hide the fact that I feel Mr. Baan and the Vanenburg group just got themselves a very good deal. But I also want to go on the record as saying that with what we stand to gain as investors from their involvement, I now think that we did too. I will be interested in seeing how the Press handles this story. If anyone sees any references to the deal, could they please post it here. It took awhile for me to get my teeth into this today, but with everything in consideration, I like the outcome, and I am now getting excited again to see just how far this company can go. Crazy Canuk
