Thanks, Dad. I did see your later post and you and I recall the exchange similarly.

I do have one remark to make in general, then I will shut up about the chasm in which we have fallen.

What is "this thread"? Is/was it Frank's responses, mine, Mike's posts, Apollo's work? Is it a lurker who suddenly decides to promote his fave without understanding what is going on here?

No, "the thread" is esoteric sum of the goals, accomplishments, rules, mores, rapport, discipline and spirit that we have created here. These things will evolve whether we focus on them or not. Frank has helped us focus. He was diligent in pouring water on anything that looked like a flame. He was diligent in keep stock topics on topic, though interpersonal banter off topic was open if flames are avoided. He was diligent in welcoming newbies warmly and often delegated this duty to some of us if he was unable to be around for a while.

Many of us took up the banner of "the thread" to be sure that it stayed on course, I among them. I, for one, will continue to do what I think is good for the regulars and regular lurkers of this thread. When I decide that the stress isn't worth it, I will leave as well.

I am asking for the regulars (you know who you are) to help keep this place on course with the same methods that were used before. Perhaps it was PMs that got us in trouble, rather than the public forum, so let's be vigilant about our demeanor in PMs as well as posts.

Ranting over.

NTAP was up today. Was that the Gilder effect?
