johnd, if a settlement can be reached fairly soon, i think it is more than likely that the stock will be up 15 - 20 pts. the next day.

what a nice xmas present that would be.

MSFT's history has seen repeated 'resting' periods of anywhere from 6-9 months followed by strong uplegs. In my view, we are towards the end of the latest such period and this is among the best times to initiate or increase long-term positions in this premiere company. The Win2K launch will drive a tremendous amount of business throughout the PC sector over the next two years. Now is the time to position for that growth.

MSFT already telegraphed in the last quarter's report that they expect the current quarter to be very strong. I'll be very surprised to see the stock below 100 by the January report and next year we should see the stock comfortably north of 150 with split talk again in the air by next fall. All this independent of what happens with the settlement talks.
