MM, that's possible. however, don't forget that such major changes in herd psychology usually come out of the blue, i.e. everyone is so stunned and surprised that there is often not enough time to avert the damage. after all you can't force people into not wanting to sell..if the exchanges close down, the ECN's will probably continue to trade and then stocks simply re-open that much lower. i agree though that all sorts of manipulation can be expected in the unlikely event of too much red on the screens.
