MARKET SNAPSHOT ------------------------------------------------------------ Stocks slipped Monday on interest-rate worries as the widely watched yield on the Treasury's benchmark long bond rose. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 40.99 at 10947.92; the Nasdaq Composite was lower by 26.44 to 3421.37; and the S&P 500 was down 8.79 to 1407.83. Market breadth finished negatively on the Big Board, with 2,118 decliners and 993 advancers. Down volume outpaced up volume, with 551.7 million shares vs. 324.6 million shares, respectively. "Today the market became aware of rising interest rates which have mostly been ignored as a temporary spike," says Stanley Nabi, vice chairman at Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette Asset Management. "Last week's economic data, that is, GDP and personal income, significantly points to interest rates weighing on the market."
