I may, as it is not my strong point and as I am currently placed--or not.... Luckily, they need my financial expertise as I coordinate with a banker on the Board who needs some support in helping with the financial aspects of the theater's growing up from an itinerant production company to a propertied company that rents space and mounts its productions in its own space as well as touring. It's Blue Heron Theatre, which has gotten a gratifying amount of exposure recently. Good heavens! Have you any special feeling about O'Neill? We are doing the premiere of a play about O'Neill written by the French-Canadian playwright Anne Legault, in which O'Neill struggles with the ghosts of his family as he tries to write Long Day's Journey into Night . It is a marvelous play, dealing with the ghosts' demanding their right to privacy and human dignity and accusing him of using them for his own ends (remember how evocative his play was) even as he is struggling to deal with the conflicts with his wife Carlotta and the children. The play deals with the obvious moral dilemma faced by an author who cannibalizes his life to create fiction; it explores the boundaries between autobiography, fiction, and divergent visions of reality. Unless the actors and director screw it up, this promises to be a pip because the play is really good! Moreover, we are fortunate enough to have an exhibition of artifacts and photos from Monte Cristo Cottage for the term of the performances, January 7 through January 30. Afterward, the exhibition will tour the country. If you can make it, I think you will enjoy it. If you have friends who might be interested, so let me know and I shall send them all info.
