I've just returned from the gildertech board, and I can confirm what you say. In the past two days I've found myself using email to folks here on SI with whom I would ordinarily converse via PM. It's actually pretty bad here, and on the Gilder thread right now, as well. There, it actually stalled altogether yesterday, for quite a spell. I do not suspect a common element between the two sites, nor do I suspect the 'net itself. Raging Bull, Excite etc. all jump immediately onto the screen, as do the periodicals I peruse.

In case anyone is interested, here's the site for the Internet Traffic Report, a kind of 'net weather watch:

internettrafficreport.com

It's been all over the map for the past several days, as well it should be at different times of the day, but there has been no correlation between down trends or up trends on the report with the performance either here or on the GTR forum.

Note: If you click on any of the regional boxes on the map you will get a view of the relative performance of individual backbone routers and the metrics which reflect packet losses at each.
