An analyst should not be recommending purchase of a stock if his price target suggests the stock will go down.

Clearly. The problem is that many analysts, Fitzgerald included, don't want to look bad so they are overly conservative. In a case like CYMI, where was Fitzgerald when the stock was 10. No one was recommending CYMI there. Further, his price targets are out to lunch. 1) His estimates are too low. 2) What good does it do to have a 30x multiply on a stock that will grow at almost double that for at least the next two years.
