Auto sales roaring Auto sales through November came within 37,000 vehicles of surpassing last year's sales total of 15.6 million, the second-best sales year in history. Ford Motor reported November sales of its Ford, Mercury and Lincoln brands rose 4.4%. General Motors' November market share dropped to 27.2%, the lowest non-strike-related share in GM's history. Automakers are on track this year to beat the 1986 sales record of 16.05 million vehicles.
