Nowadays, they are pushing the pharmacological treatment of psychosis, because the results have been so dramatic, particularly with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The success rate of "talking" therapies was always poor with psychotics, and is not so hot with neurotics, either. In fact, one of the dirty little secrets of the psychiatric profession is that there only a bit more than a ten percent success rate with neurotics, and that it doesn't seem to matter what school the therapist subscribes to. Thus, pharmacology has raised excitement among doctors. On the other hand, it has been widely admitted that drugs like Ritalin have been over-prescribed, and there are still many doubts about the side- effects of drugs like Prozac......
