US DVD player sales up only 116.2%, in the lastest week................................. dvdinsider.com Vital Statistics - 11/30/99 According to statistics from CEMA, for the week ending Nov. 19, 1999, DVD player unit sales to dealers were down at 112,063, a 116.2 percent increase from 1998, however, approximately 100 percent shy of typical DVD player unit sales. Projection television sales were 29,883, a mere 3.8 percent increase for 1998. Month-to-date, DVD player sales appear more promising, having sold 277,547, a 244.4 percent increase and while projection television sales are still in a slump at 78,102 sold, a 1.1 percent increase. Year-to-date, DVD sales are lingering around its average. To date, 3,253,953 DVD players have been sold to dealers, a 307 percent increase from 1998 and projection television sales are at 1,027,052, a 12.2 percent increase. DVD title sales are doing spectacular as the holiday season is rapidly approaching. According to VideoScan, for the week ending Nov. 21, 1999, 613,000 DVD titles were sold yielding a fantastic year-to-date total of 15,746,000. Karla Lawson karla@dvdinsider.com

OT Did you know the MPAA created the WTO! According to David Puttnam's book (Puttnam was producer of Chariots of Fire etc) Lew Wasserman gave Bill Clinton the final go-ahead to pass GATT, which created the WTO. With WTO the MPAA was able to go after foreign piracy. Now I'm going to name my book MEDIA STATE- From the Big Combo to the WTO: How the Mob took over Hollywood, murdered the President and created an unHoly Alliance between the Media and the State. (The Big Combo was the underworld syndicate headed by Lew Wasserman's friends Meyer Lansky, Moe Dalitz and Lucky Luciano.)
