Ratan:
With regards to patents, Indian Govt is introducing a bill - the Geographical indication of Goods' Registration and protection Act Bill - mandated by TRIPS -Trade related intellectual property Rights. With the enactment of the new bill, Darjeeling Tea, Alphonso mangoes, Malabar Pepper, Alapuzzha Cardamom etc will be registered as unique products of their geographical points of origin. The states have to take the initiative as to the products the state wants to bring under the protection of the bill. Read more about it on page 30 India Abroad December 3, 1999 issue.
