If the Washington Post had been sued for that, whoever brought the case would surely have lost it. Ever heard of Charles Krauthammer, for example? Or of George Will? Regular WP columnists. And if you think there are no ordinary reporters there who share their views, you don't know Washington.;-)

Well there is no way to stop anyone from suing anyone for anything, but "political persuasion" is not a protected category in Title VII so there is no basis for a suit. Newspapers are almost unique in having specific constitutional protection (First Amendment) to discriminate.
