AXC management showed that it was sensitive to the internet chat boards. Over on the Yahoo thread they had worked themselves into a frenzy over all the stuff that was supposed to happen today. Unfortunately it turned out that the inside scoop was nothing more than wild speculation. Nevertheless management attempted to please us by making sure EXBTV was running by the end of the day, and giving us some unexpected bonus news.

Ampex did complete their promise to make EXBTV live in November. Not that EXBTV is done. There are tons more things at EXBTV to go live, including FDA hearings in mid-December, FCC hearings, SEC hearings, etc. Right now all that is live is just the front page. The rest will come live over the next month, no doubt. I suspect that it is wise for EXBTV to wait until January for the bugs to be worked out, and for the other channels to come online, before doing a big promotional campaign. The nice this about this is that during the month I suspect that usage will grow slowly, allowing them to find and fix bugs in an orderly fashion rather than with a massive failure like some other sites.

As for iStyle, yes Ampex originally stated that they expected it to debut by the end of November. They never promised a firm date, and in recent days IR has reported that the launch will be in early December. I believe that this will also be a soft launch. Remember, Ampex expects no revenue at all from iNEXTV this quarter. When they do the hard launch, I expect that there will indeed be advertising revenue.

Looking back at today, did we get everything we could have hoped for? No. Did we get everything that Ampex management had given us a right to expect? Yes, and much, much, much more. You could have knocked me over when I read about the KM credit cards. All day I kept envisioning things like credit card readers that display the users picture, medical records on a card, and credit cards as film for digital cameras. There is nothing like discovering a revenue stream that you didn't know was coming. As far as I'm concerned, this made Ampex worth a dollar more a share, and that dollar will eventually be reflected in the price.

I am quite content with the way things are developing at Ampex. As for tomorrow's action, today we created a very negative chart. There is strong resistance in this area, and there is a chance it will hold, but there is also a good chance that we retrace to 3 15/16. If we do, I think we'll see a strong bounce back into the 4 3/8 to 4 3/4 range, where we'll probably stay until iSTYLE releases. Even if we get another market meltdown, I can't see this going under 3 15/16.

Next up will be Billboard Magazine on December 3, unless iSTYLE beats it.
