Eugene Kearney: Maybe you can help me with an OT question. Why are corrections necessary and/or healthy? I hear this so much. Isn't this just wishful thinking by people (anaylsts, fund managers) who want to buy stocks at a cheaper price, stocks they should have had anyway, but didn't buy? Then, when it does go down, they usually don't buy afterall due to fear of a continued slide (average Joe investor)?

Why can't things just flatten out? Doesn't this accomplish the same thing without all the 'correction' business? Or isn't flat exciting enough?

I'm not trying to beat you up. Just curious. I've never found anyone who could explain this. Of course, you can just ignore it too, for the sake of the thread. Thanks.
