I think this Amazon/HP announcement is just some creative bookkeeping. I bet you open the cover of the HP server and a lot of toner falls out. Doing the press release was just the best way for Amazon to minimize its toner cost for the holiday rush of those little receipts they print out and put in your book packages.

You can't fool me, twitty. You do need a Sun server to run an internet site.

No Twister, you dont need one, but it sure helps.

Amazon was using a large farm of Digital Alphaservers - Digital/Compaq has been their long term partners for their storefront - I wonder what the equity arrangements were between HP and Amazon beyond Amazon reselling HP products - I hope HP didnt trade servers like they normally do to get a return in Amazon's profits cause they could be waiting a looooong time...

RESEARCH ALERT- Sun Microsystems target

November 30, 1999 08:43 AM Eastern Time

NEW YORK, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch analyst Steven Milunovich on Tuesday said he raised the 12-month price target on Sun Microsystems Inc. SUNW , maker of servers, workstations and software for
networked computing, to $165 from $155.

-- "We expect a bullish mid-quarter update Wednesday," Milunovich wrote in a research report.

-- "Management plans to protect margins by taking costs out and selling more over the Net. It will not follow the risk/reward sharing strategy of a 'desperate' HP." he said referring to Hewlett-Packard Co. HWP .

-- Shares of Sun Microsystems rose to a 52-week high of 140-3/16 before falling back to 132-5/8, down 4-3/16 in late afternoon trading.
