Jill,

<< I don't think it has to be a focus, but I have never understood why there isn't room for it to be included in discussion from time to time >>

I am probably as guilty as anyone of getting OT.

Would you please consider starting a new thread on G&K Investing Strategies (similar to its Qualcomm cousin) and back off this topic here. Please.

Jill,

I really don't understand why people don't make options trading part of a longterm portfolio.

Two reasons.

The first is that options are short-term vehicles. It would be accurate to describe options as part of one's total portfolio but it ain't possible by definition for them to be part of a long-term portfolio. Even when using options strategies that provide insurance on long-term holdings, those insurance strategies are short-term

The second reason is that some people don't want to spend the time needed to monitor the options. Count me in that camp.

The only part of a post of your I ever remember objecting to is when you mentioned recently that it is "silly" not to include options in the discussion. That was probably a slip of the keyboard, or is maybe a reason for us to agreeably disagree, but to call that decision silly is awfully close to calling the person silly.

I've been called worse, but you get the point. :) Very, very glad to see you tromping through the bits and bytes around here.
