JAKARTA, Indonesia, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Officials from PT Delphi Automotive Systems Indonesia's manufacturing facility near here outlined the company's growth strategy at the plant's grand opening ceremony today. Delphi Indonesia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delphi Automotive Systems (NYSE: DPH - news), based in Troy, Mich., USA.

Located in Lippo Cikarang, Bekasi, Indonesia, approximately 32 km (20 miles) east of Jakarta, Delphi Indonesia operates as a full-process, vehicle wire cutting and assembly facility, and supplies power and signal distribution systems products to automobile manufacturers and suppliers both domestically and abroad. Delphi Indonesia's total sales in 2000 are expected to grow to US $40 million, more than double its 1999 performance.

''This plant has the flexibility to supply high-quality products built to North American, Japanese and European vehicle design standards competitively and at various volume levels, all in one facility,'' said Tom Sosnowchik, director, Delphi Packard Electric's Asia-Pacific Operations. With strong product and process capabilities, coupled with a dedicated and intelligent workforce, Delphi is confident in the future prospects of its site here in Indonesia.''

Delphi Indonesia's name recently changed from PT Packard Kabelindo Murni Indonesia to reflect Delphi's 100 percent acquisition of its former joint venture with PT Kabelindo Murni. The new name also reflects Delphi's independence from its former parent, General Motors Corp.

Delphi Indonesia supplies wiring harnesses domestically for General Motors Buana Indonesia's Opel Blazer, and exports various wiring products to Australia, Japan, Thailand and the United States. Export customers include: Isuzu, GM Thailand and GM North America.

''Delphi's vision in Indonesia is to exceed its customers' expectations. Focusing on customers is what has driven Delphi's success today, and is the impetus for Delphi's growth strategy in Indonesia,'' said David Clary, president and director, Delphi Indonesia.

Delphi Indonesia has 1,400 employees and is certified to all its customers' global quality standards. The plant, which covers 14,000 square meters, utilizes state-of-the-art cutting technology to generate up to 1 million cut leads, or terminated wires, daily. Delphi to Sponsor Delphi Indy 200 at Walt Disney World Speedway

TROY, Mich., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Delphi Automotive Systems (NYSE: DPH - news) is shifting into high gear for the upcoming Pep Boys Indy Racing League (IRL) season by sponsoring the IRL's opening race -- the Delphi Indy 200 at Walt Disney World Speedway near Orlando, Fla., Jan. 29, 2000.

In announcing Delphi's title sponsorship, J.T. Battenberg III, chairman, CEO and president, said the commitment underlines the company's ongoing belief in the future of motorsports as a proving ground for a new generation of leading-edge Delphi products.

''There's no harsher testing environment for the development of truly breakthrough products than racing,'' Battenberg said. ''For that reason, we've made a deliberate effort to foster our relationship with the Indy Racing League. Additionally, this sponsorship agreement is a great way to build and enhance the Delphi brand, as the event will be held at Walt Disney World, one of the world's most popular destinations.''

Tony George, president and chief executive officer of the IRL, echoed Battenberg's enthusiasm.

''Delphi is clearly one of the leading forces in the development of automotive systems. We are very pleased with the title sponsorship of the Delphi Indy 200 at Walt Disney World, and the additional endorsement of the importance of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League by Delphi,'' George said.

Battenberg said Delphi's commitment to motorsports is on solid ground, especially with the recent renewal of a sponsorship agreement with the Kelley Racing Team. Since 1998, Delphi has sponsored Scott Sharp in car #8 of the Pep Boys IRL and the new agreement runs through the 2001 racing season. Sharp won two races in 1998, finishing fourth in IRL points for the season. This year Sharp won the Kobalt Mechanics Tools 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Delphi recently announced an associate sponsorship of the #28 Pep Boys Indy Racing League car driven by Mark Dismore, also a Kelley Racing Team driver. Dismore won the final race of the 1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League season at Texas Motor Speedway.

Delphi has a long history of using motorsports competition as a venue for product testing. Since 1988, Delphi has been involved with open wheel racing to assist in researching and developing technologies to help improve driver safety. Today, a majority of the cars in the league are equipped with several of Delphi's racing products, including:

•Engine Control Module -- optimizes engine performance through monitoring more than 30 engine parameters, 100 times per second to control fuel injection and ignition timing; allows for some driver control through the Pit Speed Limiter Switch and Fuel Trim Switch.•Capacitive Discharge Module -- when commanded by the Gen IV Engine Control Module, this unit precisely supplies more than 360 Volts to the coils of each of the eight spark plugs; it eliminates the need for a mechanical distributor.•Track Condition Radio -- alerts drivers with critical information by transmitting messages from race control to the race car; a dash-mounted display communicates messages including safety warnings, track condition and pits opened/closed.•Radio Telemetry Module -- transmits engine and chassis data from a speeding race car to race team engineers located in the pits; the telemetry module enhances driver safety and race team strategy by making real-time data available.

The one-mile, tri-oval track at Walt Disney World Speedway has become a popular venue for the Pep Boys Indy Racing League. Each of the past four years, the IRL has opened its season with the Indy 200 just outside the gates of the Magic Kingdom.
