Here's a repost of the first paragraph of Dell's new OptiPlex GX300, just in case you guys also found Dell's front-end server to be rather unresponsive:

dell.com

GX300 - The new Performance Desktop from Dell. Featuring Single or Dual Intel Pentium III processors, the 820 Chipset and Rambus PC800 ECC RDRAM with a 4XAGP slot in a MiniTower chassis. The GX300 is not yet orderable or configurable, but please browse the system specifications

Nothing about Coppermine reliability here, Jim. My guess is that this GX300 system relies on a dual-processor motherboard with the 820 chipset. It's reasonable to assume that such motherboards aren't available yet. That has little to do with the processor itself.

By the way, after a little investigating, I called up Dell and asked about the availability of 733 MHz Dell OptiPlex systems for educational use (i.e. 733 Cumine on 810e chipset). Had I ordered one, they said it would have been shipped by December 22. Not exactly a sign of plentiful supply, but at least this date is sooner than the January 6th date that some guy (who will remain anonymous) challenged me to confirm.
