James,

If I were Steve Balmer, I would fire the whole Windows CE marketing group. Microsoft is known for making products that meet customers' needs, though can be very buggy. CE has been anything but meeting customer's needs. It's too resource demanding for PDAs, it is too slow for timing critical applications, and it is too unstable for automobiles.

Maybe because the embedded market is not easy for PC people to understand. Maybe Microsoft was too ambitious with CE. But changing the name is the last thing it should be spending time on, make a real product with a specific customer or market in mind first!

Looking in hind sight, it is clear that CE made the mistakes that Jeffrey Moore has said to not to do in "Crossing the Chasm". I wonder, how come these MBA marketers for CE don't know this? "Arrogance" is the only answer that comes to my mind. "If we make it, they will buy it." is probably Microsoft's strategy for CE. They should be ashamed of themselves for not running away with market. (Can you imagine if they hired Allan Benn to be an advisor for CE? Too scary!)

Just for fun, let me start a rumor--Intel is selecting VxWorks for its CDMA chipsets.
