Real time quotes -- I opened an IRA with Datek, and get real time quotes of up to 40 stocks on a banner I can pull up any time.
I don't use them much for trading--they don't do options yet--but they have the best, easiest free real-time quotes I've found.

I opened an account at Datek but never funded it because my brother found his statements all garbled and about three or four months late. Check around. They should have fixed the problem by now or they would not still be in business.

They used to have lots of stock for shorting, but that has changed. I do not know why.

Take a look at www.gomez.com. They do a good job of rating brokers.

I have been using Fidelity and Accutrade. Both have been faultless, but their commissions are both around $29.95 for the first thousand and .02/share thereafter.

Ameritrade and Accutrade are owned by the same holding company. Given the good Accutrade service I am looking at switching into Ameritrade for the lower commissions.
