Jimmy Hoffa and the Teamsters.....

The SEATTLE WEEKLY has a detailed list of all the protest events - places, times, expected activity. VERY well orchestrated. Wonder who's in charge?

Hi LRNLATN....what a difference a couple of hours make, eh? (and no, I didn't see any today...just watching all local channels...) Bet all at GNET and SI, as well as Boeing, MSFT, RNWK, etc etc will be glad when this week is over with...how's that for an understatement!

Various Thoughts on WTO Woodstock today and tonight....

Of all places in the US, Seattle is a city of diversity, and one that values that diversity and difference of opinion, at least IMO. But tonight, watching the events on TV, where the Mayor and Gov have just declared a Civil State of Emergency Curfew in downtown Seattle, I feel sad, and would imagine most of us do. This could be any city USA.

The Mayor of Seattle said it well...."non-violent protest IS acceptable; violent protest is NOT acceptable." The National Guard, about 200 or so, have been called in to help the Police and State Patrol prevent further disruptions. The police have done a good job, again IMO.

It would appear that most of the day the Teamsters, etc who had registered, organized, and had permits to protest did that non violently.
It appears that there were some fringe groups, and some gangs, who have come in this afternoon and evening, with only violence as an intent. So tonight on TV, it is an eerie sight in downtown Seattle as the police try to disperse the protestors (many of whom probably aren't smart enough to know what they think they are protesting....only know they feel like causing attention and damage. This is what I saw and heard tonight:
Some totally unruly people
Tear gas canisters going off
Police in riot gear, armed with tear gas and tear gas pellets
Cancelled meetings of every sort in the area
Police and reporters taking videos of protesters and the damage they have done
Windows damaged and broken in many of the stores in the downtown core
Spray paint and painted graffiti on many buildings
And around it all, ironically, Christmas lights..... no cars..... and stillness....

I think we should all ask ourselves, and ask our media (ALL media) to :

Find out WHERE these people who choose to be violent really live.

Find out how old they are, and just why being destructive would be of any value. ARE THEY GOING TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE?

Do they work for a living? If so, how can they get time off, and what group is paying for them to come here.

If they don't work, HOW do they live, and what group is paying for them to come here.

Ask them why they think that damaging property, and possibly people makes ANY sense whatever.

Just my thoughts right now...
