OT: Hi Sam. I didn't know if you were the, "Sam," on the Asia thread. The Asian crisis lead to some great discussions about international economics. Pretty exciting times those were. In the last year or so, as Asia has pulled themselves out of their economic morass, I just couldn't devote as much time to the thread. I was pretty much tied up with my telecommunications infrastructure investing. Anyhow, there are currently only three ways to solve the Last Mile (access network) bottleneck problems: -Coaxial cable(HFC or Hybrid-Fiber Coaxial) -Twisted copper pair(xDSL) -Fixed Wireless(LMDS) IMHO, coaxial and copper are neck and neck in spending and deployment. Wireless is just coming on the scene to fill in the blanks where copper and coaxial don't make economic sense. So the idea is to find the companies positioned to supply the equipment needed to feed to the big, "Service Provider,"(ILEC/RBOC/CLEC/MSO/IXC) players what they need to pump up their access infrastructure. I could name at least 50 companies right off the bat. So it's very hard to pick out only three. Depends to much upon your aversion to risk and your investing horizon. But here is a list I drew up about two months ago. I wrote it up about as fast as I could type. So, in hindsight, I left out at least 15 companies I feel are pretty well positioned that were a little more complicated to explain. FWIW here's the list: Message 11577981 HTH, MikeM(From Florida)
