Changes to Jubak's Picks
Add Citrix Systems (CTXS)
I hope some of you got a chance to jump into Citrix Systems (CTXS) when, on
Nov. 23, it briefly fell below the $82 buying target I set in my Nov. 19 column,
"Stocks that'll hop to apps on tap." I'm going to add it to Jubak's Picks with
this column even though I'm not getting that "bargain price." The stock is now
just $5 above its 10-day moving average and looks set for another leg in its
rally. Citrix is the best pure play in the coming world of applications on tap, and
the company has revised its strategy to go after this opportunity with both
hands. In early November, it signed what I think is a big deal with Cisco
Systems (CSCO) to co-develop software for delivering applications all the way
from external servers through company networks to individual desktops. About
90 application service providers have expressed interest in using the
company's MetaFrame platform for running software over the Internet. That big
opportunity should start to kick in for Citrix in 2001. In the near term, the
upcoming release of MetaFrame 2000 for the soon-to-be-released Windows
2000 ought to drive substantial revenue and earnings growth. My target price
for Citrix is $115 by May 2000. (Full disclosure: I own shares of Citrix
Systems.)
