Hi Tony,

Hard to say about S/390. This stuff was written off when IBM almost imploded back in 1993, but came back strongly. The last few years have been a kind of 'treading water' thing, although the MIP ship rates double the revenue stays flat because of price cuts. IBM will have to keep pricing low, but if they can do so and keep playing up the RAS strengths it could continue to be a very profitable platform for years to come. I think folks need to keep in mind that the hardware is just the tip of the iceberg, there are substantial revenue/profit streams in the peripheral and especially software areas also.

Regards,
John
