Broadcom Ships Industry-First High-Speed Home Networking Silicon
iLine10 Chipsets Deliver Shared Internet Access Using In-home Phoneline

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1999--Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a leading provider of integrated circuits enabling broadband communications to and throughout the home and business, today announced it is now shipping production quantities of the new iLine10(TM) high-speed home networking chipsets to PC OEMs and networking equipment providers.

iLine10 chipsets, the technology foundation for the new 10 megabits per second (Mbps) Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) 2.0 standard, are the first 10 Mbps standard-based devices to ship. The HomePNA is an association of more than 115 industry-leading companies working together to ensure adoption of a single, unified phoneline networking standard and rapidly bring to market a range of interoperable home networking solutions. Broadcom's subsidiary, Broadcom HomeNetworking, Inc., is a founding member of the Home PNA.

"The home networking market is focused today on sharing Internet access and Broadcom is delivering the necessary ingredients," said Jeff Thermond, vice president and general manager of Broadcom's Home Networking Business Unit. "iLine10 chipsets give PC OEMs, consumer electronics manufacturers and network equipment suppliers a value-added solution for 10 Mbps high-speed home networking. Bringing standards-based 10 Mbps solutions to market can help accelerate the growing reach of the home networking marketplace."

Numerous vendors, including 3Com, Diamond Multimedia, D-Link, Intel Corporation, and NetGear (a division of Nortel Networks) have begun shipping products based on iLine10 silicon. Several other vendors plan to ship 10 Mbps home networking consumer products during the holiday season.

Any speculations on a split announcement? It feels like it is about time. My guess would be 3 for 1, but, would still be happy with a twofer.
