COMPAQ: Compaq makes waves with BT Global Challenge

DEC 1, 1999, M2 Communications - Compaq today announced the four
employees who will each represent Compaq as ambassadors on one leg of
the BT Global Challenge Yacht Race 2000/1.

Compaq today announced the four employees who will each represent
Compaq as ambassadors on one leg of the BT Global Challenge Yacht Race
2000/1. The Compaq employees will join marine scientist Will Oxley who
is the skipper responsible for the Compaq boat in the race. The race
will take them over 30,000 miles, visiting five continents and six
countries before returning to the UK in 2001. The Compaq employees are:
Mark Harbord from Compaq's Richmond offices, Vincent Jordan from
Compaq's Galway offices, and Fiona Madine and Peter Stewart from
Compaq's Erskine offices.

The Compaq internal BT Global Challenge yacht crew selection process
took place during October and November, reducing the numbers from 40 to
the final four. The selection process was gruelling and employees had
to demonstrate teamwork, commitment and endurance to impress the
internal Compaq selection team and a specialist team of crew selectors.
The race and the selected Compaq employee participants embody many of
the qualities Compaq promotes as an organisation. Both involve people
ready to face the toughest challenge, people with a sense of adventure,
and people who enjoy working as a team.

The BT Global Challenge, the world's toughest yacht race, will set
sail from Ocean Village, Southampton in September 2000. It is the only
round-the-world yacht race to circumnavigate the globe against
prevailing winds and currents. The race will involve up to 12 yachts,
over 200 international crew volunteers and will take approximately ten
months to complete.
