Subsidiary in Consortium for Australian Government Telecommunications Contract $110 Million Contract for Northern Territory NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1999--Global TeleMedia International, Inc. (OTC: BB: GTMI) announced today that its newly acquired Australian subsidiary, Octa4 Code Media Pty. Ltd, has been selected as part of a consortium for a $110 million government contract for the Northern Territory of Australia.
The consortium, leaded by Cable & Wireless Optus, includes BentleyTel.com (formerly Octa4 Code Media) who will supply all government voice, data and Internet facilities for the Northern Territory for five years, effective December 1, 1999.
Besides BentleyTel (Octa4) the consortium includes Compaq, NEC, ITS, CSM, Power and Water Authority, LinkCorp, Nilson and Austar.
The consortium was announced by Chef Minister Hon. Denis Burke. In announcing the award of the contract, Mr. Burke said, ''Commitments have already been made to major infrastructure upgrades and the construction of a $10 million Information Technology & Telecommunications Center in Darwin.'' Mr. Burke said the contract was unique in that it not only saved Government millions of dollars in communications costs but also delivered huge benefits to the wider Territory community. ''It will generate benefits to the industry and the public of well over $100 million,'' he said. ''This includes on-going lower prices to the NT community as a result of sustainable competition, local industry development initiatives worth over $15 million and network diversity for local businesses through access to two communications networks and optional satellite backup.''
The formal signing of the merger agreements with BentleyTel.com Octa4, 3G and DynaSem was concluded on November 22, 1999 in a ceremony in Parliament House witnessed by Minister of Telecommunications, Hon. Peter Adamson, MLA and Minister for Asian trade and Relations, Hon. Daryl Manzie, MLA, and Dr. Terrence Barrett, President of UltraPulse Communications Inc. Octa4, the largest Internet service provider in the Northern Territory of Australia, and its subsidiaries 3G Communications and DynaSem Communications were acquired by Global subsidiary BentleyTel.com Inc.
Octa4's Managing Director, Felino Molina said that BentleyTel.com (Octa4) will be responsible for IP services for the whole of the Northern Territory government.
Other members of the consortium will provide the following:
CABLE & WIRELESS OPTUS AND AUSTAR have agreed to team together with the intent of offering local telephony, Internet and interactive services to residents in Darwin who have access to Austar's cable systems. -- COMPAQ will provide the WAN management services for the contract. -- NEC will provide the voice management services for the contract. -- BENTLEYTEL.COM (Octa4) will provide Internet access management
services to support the contract over the 5 years. -- ITS will provide the mobile phone services, satellite phone
services and may provide operator services and Tier 1 Help Desk
operator services and microwave transmission links for the
contract. -- CSM will provide skilled IT resources through Compaq. -- PAWA will build, own and maintain the fiber optic network. -- NILSEN will oversee the construction, testing and on-going
maintenance of the fiber network as a subcontractor to PAWA. -- LINKCORP will provide civil works construction for the fiber
network
