I am not comparing CPQ to MSFT and INTC in terms of stock performance, but your assumption that MSFT does this because of its valuation is not supported by history. They started the "doom and gloom" practice just after the company went public, at a time when most CEOs would have been pumping for all they were worth, and when the price was a fraction of a percent of today's valuation. I think CPQ could profitably take a leaf out of the MSFT book on managing expectations.

I believe that CPQ management could boost the stock price with more PR - I just don't think that is the best course long term. Jack might well have a different opinion if he really intends to unload half of his position this year.
