Three points. One: are Hollywood violence and our justice system a cause or a symptom of the inherent violence in our society? Two: as to hollywood movies, I am quite concerned about the violence in them, but I also note that they are devoured, particularly the more violent movies, by many other cultures, including heterogenous ones. But those societies don't mirror the same violence in their daily lives. And Japanese movies tend also to considerable violence, but theirs is generally considered a nonviolent society. Third: as to our justice system, yes, it is extremely violent. But mostly in the area of drugs. If you legalized drugs and offered free drug treatment to all who wanted it, our level of incarcerated people would probably mirror most other Western countries. And Singapore, as was noted, is in many ways a more violent justice system (we would never allow caning in our justice system), yet they have a very homogenous population and a peaceful people.
