Mike -
As I said to Jim Kelley, I love the product - especially the colors - just not the price point.

you seem to be walking all around the major issue: one button service, usable by a novice, inexpensive to Dell to administer.

That's not exclusive to Webpc. It's not even exclusive to DELL although DELL has the slickest implementation.

the price is comparable to other similar systems.
I don't think so - The Webpc Wild is roughly comperable to the base iPaq - except it has a slower processor and costs twice as much. And the iPaq comes with Windows 2000 which is a $200 option on DELL PCs and not currently available on Webpc.

Gateway's Astro has a slower processor than Webpc fun (400 vs. 433) but is otherwise virtually identical, also a unique form factor (not as good a design IMHO as Webpc), and $200 cheaper. Webpc is maybe worth more than the Gateway Astro but $200 more?

HP's e-PC is not yet a released product but they are taking the same "corporate appliance" approach as CPQ - a legacy-free commercial desktop running Windows 2000. Their "target" price is $599. In the consumer space, HP just announced the Brio for $499, which is a 433MHz celeron-based system with about the same feature set as Webpc. Brio at that price has only 32MB RAM, taking it to 64MB (Webpc size) increases cost by $59. In addition, HP offers a $400 rebate if the customer does a 1-year AOL deal which costs only $240. 15" monitor $99. So add all that up and you get to $497 for a system with the same features and services as Webpc fun, for half the money.
