Strong finish in crude and OSS. E$P's looked a little less sick at closing. Slider, it feels like an old Riverview rollercoaster ratcheting up the ramp again. This time maybe I'll get a little more off the table before the plunge. :-))

DEEP DRILLERS, that's my mantra. NE seems a little high compared to RIG and FLC. Post merger sell off in RIG if it happens will be IMHO mild and temporary. The new BIG RIG is on it's way to the head of the pack, soon to ride on the back of worldwide deep/big potential. Good luck all. Winkman

RESEARCH ALERT - Rowan earnings estimates raised

NEW YORK, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Lehman said analyst J. Crandell has raised his estimates of Rowan Cos. (NYSE:RDC - news) 2000 earnings per share to 45 cents from 20 cents to reflect the impact of sharply rising day rates for long-legged jackups in the Gulf of Mexico.

-- First quarter earnings per share were estimated at 14 cents, up from 3 cents previously.

-- Noting that jackup rates in the Gulf of Mexico continued to surge, the analyst said, ``... Rowan is leading rates higher and is experiencing the most impact from the higher
rates.'

-- He estimated fourth quarter earnings per share at 2 cents, including a 3 cent per share mobilization charge, reducing the projected loss for the year to 12 cents per share
from 17 cents.

-- The First Call/Thomson Financial consensus estimates projected nil earnings per share for the current quarter and a loss of 14 cents per share for the year, first quarter
earnings of 2 cents per share and 2000 earnings per share of 34 cents.

Rowan's stock closed Wednesday up 1-13/16 at 18-15/16 on trading of 1.3 million shares at prices as high as 19-1/16.
