NORWALK, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1999--
TMC Labs and partners of the ATM Local Telephony Alliance (ALTA) co-sponsor a "Next-Gen Telco in a Booth" to educate the industry about
alternatives to legacy hardware-based network infrastructures
TMC Labs, the in-house product testing group for Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC(TM)) and its TMC publications, and ALTA are co-sponsoring a live, broadband central office for public demonstration on the CTI(TM) EXPO Fall '99 show floor, slated for Dec. 7-9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nev. The participating ALTA partners include Advanced Switching Communications, Newbridge Networks, TeraBridge Technologies and Vina Technologies. By showing a cost-effective Class 5 alternative, TMC and ALTA hope to teach CTI EXPO Fall '99 attendees about the converged phone companies of tomorrow, without the typical trade show marketing and sales hype. "Service providers the world over are experiencing a tremendous opportunity to offer their customers a wealth of new and very profitable services," said Rich Tehrani, TMC president, group publisher and show co-chair. "In order to help these service providers take advantage of all the opportunities available to them, we are offering a full 'Next-Gen Telco-in-a-Booth' at CTI EXPO - an educational attraction dedicated to helping all service providers - from CLECs to wireless and cable companies learn about how to offer customers new and profitable voice and data services."
Technical specifics of the Next-Gen Telco-in-a-Booth are available in a separate document that will be distributed at the show and posted at the CTI EXPO Fall '99 Web site (http://www.ctiexpo.com). The basic premise consists of four parts. First, two of Vina's Multiservice Xchange next generation integrated access devices (IADs) will send calls to an ASC RBOX multi-service aggregator unit. The calls will then enter the "central office" components: first, there will be a Newbridge Networks MainStreetXpress 36170 ATM switch (where calls also enter from and leave to the PSTN and the Internet). Second, there will TeraBridge's PathMinder software, an open software suite that provides a graceful migration path from narrowband circuit switching to next generation packet switched and broadband networks.
