Hi PJ,

Where can one find more info on the new caching technology for video that NOVLs D Major was demonstrating a few weeks ago? This could really be...

The technology could be perfect for IATV maybe also LBRT (an ORCL company!)..Interactive TV is going to be the next big thing. For most of the planet the internet will only happen on a tv set.

Victor :)

Hello PJ,

I'm playing catch-up again ... ;-)

I understand that this was said, but I would have to say that the NetWare platform, and now the ICS platform, are the primary "core competency" of the company.

I understand that NDS is an important aspect of NetWare, for the management of large networks, but Novell still has to prove a revenue model for this.

I believe that as we progress into next year, directories are going to start to show up everywhere ... and as I have believed for quite some time, LDAP will be the protocol of choice for developers ... removing the ability to capitalize on proprietary protocols.

If projects like OpenLDAP (http://www.openldap.org) keep making progress, the core LDAP v3 engines will be freely available. More and more applications will be written to use LDAP as their primary protocol. How will Novell "charge" for NDS? When it's on NetWare, they are charging for client licenses ...

Now ZENworks is a beautiful example of a directory-based application that can be charged for by the "seat" ... or end-user. So here, a directory-enabled application can generate revenue.

But how many examples of these types of applications does Novell have on the market today? Or within the "10 ZENs"?

Until then ... I'm afraid that NetWare and BorderManager/ICS seem, to me, to be a better bet for revenue ...
