Gateway Rollout Status

Because it's not clear what the Globalstar means, exactly, by "soft" rollout, friendly user tests, limited commercial service, full commercial service, etc, I'm tracking the rollout of service according to the following definition: "in service" means that an unaffiliated person may purchase and/or legally use the phone in at least parts of the country listed and get service from the GW listed.

By "country" I use same format as the list of 41 on the GLP home site as starting service first. That is, I include places like Gibraltor and Vatican City, and consider Yugoslavia as one country (though Elsacom treats Serbia and Montenegro separately)

By the above standards, on 30 November it appeared that two Gateways (Italy and Brazil) and 10 countries were "in service."

On 30 December, it appears there are 5 Gateways and 29 countries "in service."

Gateways: Italy, Brazil, France, USA, Canada (Ontario)

Of the 41 countries listed on GLP web page, important ones that have apparently not gone operational include Argentina, Russia, China and South Africa.

On the other hand, there's evidence service is available in several countries not listed among the 41, including Romania, Slovakia, Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Albania.

Updates, comments on the above list, which I plan to update monthly, will be appreciated?
